February 20th 1835. 11'35. A.M.
The Bargue "Glanmalier", Brown Master, from Liverpool, in Latitude 34º 45 South, and Longitude 74º 05 West, experienced the schock of an Earthquake when the vessel was going about seven knots per hour, which reduced her sailing to about one mile per hour, it appearing at the time that she was dragging over a and-bank, when the lead was put over the side, but no sounding found- The shock lasted about three minutes, and caused the vessel to shake very much.—
The distance of the vessel at the time of the shock, from the land, was about ninety five miles, and in the latitude of Maule: the sea at the time was strongly agitated,- lifting the vessel to all appearance perhaps twenty feet,- In effect lasting about three minutes when

the sea subsided and it appeared as if nothing extraordinary had occurred-
Extract from the Log Book of the "Glanmalier" received from her master on the vessel's arrival at Valparaiso-
