RECORD: Darwin, C. R. [1835]. hand-drawn and water-coloured stratigraphical section map eastwards from coast — Rio Claro. CUL-DAR44.20. (John van Wyhe ed., 2002-. The Complete Work of Charles Darwin Online, http://darwin-online.org.uk/)
REVISION HISTORY: Transcribed and edited by John van Wyhe 2024. With thanks to Gordon Chancellor. RN1
NOTE: See record in the Darwin Online manuscript catalogue, enter its Identifier here. Reproduced with permission of the Syndics of Cambridge University Library and William Huxley Darwin. The volume CUL-DAR44 contains maps of South America, plans, diagrams and geological sections etc. drawn by Darwin.
Watercoloured pencil and ink section. The excised sketch from 586 was pinned to the top right corner of this. Its bottom left corner is just visible in the illustrations here. As usual, Darwin's pin is now missing. A set of pinholes on the left side once secured another piece of paper. The complete colour section is reproduced first, followed by two enlargements. No watermark seen but apparently 'COLLINS 1828', 30x6cm. This section was never published by Darwin. The uncoloured sketch was excised from the Geological diary.
See the introduction to the Geological Diary by Gordon Chancellor.
