Pencil sketches partially overwritten in black ink. Captions in pencil, brown and black ink. Watermarked incomplete shield of 'W', 20x24cm. Two pin(?) holes top middle of the leaf. A fair copy of the first sketch is in CUL-DAR39.191, the basis (in reverse) for fig. 9 in South America, p. 39: "East and West section through the terraces at Coquimbo where they debouch from the valley, and front of sea." Darwin drew a sketch in the margin of the Beagle diary, pp. 332/571 entry for 19 May 1835 like the second sketch Transect through Coquimbo valley showing terraces. Based on the Coquimbo notebook, p. 96, and the basis for fig. 10 in South America, p. 40.
