Aug 17. /44/ Waterhouse tells me, that Harpalus ænæus, has not five 0 varieties near London, but has near South end, so has the Pœcilus common — He attributes the amount of variation to salt-water admitted the force of M — argument, about comparing specimens from different countries, though not proving variation yet rendering it probable — NB. says Male Tortoiseshell sandy-coloured.
