May 5' 1855. Dr. Carpenter in his paper on Foraminifera is going to discuss common or making species certain vars. common at old times & now rare. —so also in one area & in another. N. B. Here vars seem to follow same laws as species. Known to be vars. from same individual shell presenting the two variations
