Linn. Trans Vol XIII. p. 341. D. D. Monograph on Saxifraga.— Many of the species, especially the best known ones have several varieties in wild state, (& some in cultivated state) Where there are two or more varieties, I find 9 species where such varieties appear not to be local, ie other varieties are found in same country, though commonly the variety (perhaps from our imperfect knowledge) is found only in one country out of several where the species or other varieties are found.— (Ch 4)

There are 11 species, where the one or more varieties come from distinct localities; one locality having one species & another, another var: but out of these 11, three are dubious. —

I observe if Don raises any forms from seed & it comes true 5, he thinks it must strong argument be good species. — as at p. 395
