[A11]

July 31 1855 (Take this & ask Catell)

8 vars. of Cowcumber, sent me by Mr Catell: seem to me to differ very little without they are much more true than I suppose.

Catells Ridge — remarkably rough.— Mr. Cattell says usual character

Sion House [remarkable] smooth do

Victory of Bath very much elongated (?) hardly general.

Kerrysons Prize very large

Norfolk Hero hooked by stalk but I suppose this a chance.—Mr C. says this is same degree in character If the above characters keep true, then Cowcumbers differ far more than their seeds.— Cowcumbers are the carpels?— of the seed excessively little difference, of the seed

Perhaps "Sagg's Exhibition" rather more elongated. Sion House & Victory of Bath rather smaller than others — The difference of the cowcumbers all depends on whether the specimens sent are true to their appearance.
