Jay's A Catalogue (1850) of the shells in collect of J. C. Jay.

p. 226 233 Genus Cylindrella of Pfeiffer exclusively W. India, but one 1 Texas & 1 in Puebla Land —(several species in Genus) Land Shell.

p 276 aneulotus 24 specis all American F.W. Anculotus

[1v]

I see Mollusca mostly large genera, & ranging over world. Distribution like Cirripedes. only few smallish genera angular confined. Nothing to be made out from Mollusca Heat seems the chief ruler of genera. (And barrier N. & S. of species)

Cumming says there are tropical species of Erycina

X p 313 Styliper 2 species Galapagos & W. Indies

X p 323 Cyrlutus Cyrtulus 2 spe. Pacific & do Cuming incorrect

p 324

X p. 355 Monoceros about 20 species. all West Coast of Africa & Sandwich Isd & Galapagos.— No 1 S. Africa !

X p 48 Cypricardia coralliophaga, Pacific Ocean & W. Indies It is true

p 69 Hyria Lamarck 4 species S. America, River shell.—

p 74 Etheria — 9 species Rivers of Africa

I see every every little isld has its species of Helix. — Eggs well known power of remaining dormant & even whole shell itself; with operculum might be transported. — Bulimus great range also See Back in St. Helena Sandwich Society isld. Philippines N. Caledonia— Galapagos. Seychelles N. Zealand &c &c .— Can eggs be transported by Sea?—

This case must be considered.— It is rather good contrast in same class order of Gasteropoda, that the land & F. W., more especially F.W. have more restricted ranges than sea-shells— because means of transportal more difficult— on other hand great range of Planorbis & Lymnæa opposed to this view & great range of Helix & Bulimus
