Shrewsbury July 19th /41/

The Linaria cymbalarina, in plenty on Terrace in bloom whole fortnight, never saw Bees even look at it, though many about, when yesterday, very hot day — number of Hive Bees must have visited every flower = so with V. tricolor — (yellow trefoil) Melica Polygala — (Lobelia ramosa?) Strong case of certain weather probably X causing sudden secretions of Honey & have sudden approach of Bees — = (will impregnation now take place?) (Hooker says this plant flowers all summer; like Heartease.) — (This a favourite genus, many Humbles, but no Hive Bees, a — [word obscured] upright purple Linaria in Garden — several large Humbles in yellow-hedge-Linaria)
