(Pollen of other)

Some of the abortive Thyme, was on hot days frequented by immensely flies & some small Bees— the Sans stigma appeared covered with pollen— After several heavy wet days, & one flower examined under microscope— & there appeared to be very much pollen. ie. little balls were easily detected— some, however, appeared attached loosely to some of the stigmas.—

Shrewsbury July 10th— Lemon Thyme— certainly no trace of stamens, but in some near common Thyme good sized anthers, but no pollen— Cut off several pistils & washed them— water abounded with pollen— cut off 3 separately & found many grains of undoubted pollen (one of shape of Geranium)— on Epilobium— while Thyme oblong. 1/750─ On a fourth, I doubt whether any— They were attached to gummy matter on inside divided style.—

12th Gloomy cold morning 4th day — examined six divided styles, merely putting them in water & not whole style. Five had several kinds of pollen adhering to them, & one, I think had not, though there was one very minute capsule.— Grains chiefly adhered to tips = of style & in fork— some styles had each many grains= ↘
