July 19th 1842

Stachys coccinea Humbles frequenting the bed in same spot in numbers & all going to mouth.—

Salvia Grahami not bored Antirrhinum apparently

Aug 7th.— Same bed of Stachys coccinea with every flower bored & bees visiting them by holes— Salvia Grahami bed of & scattered flowers all bored through calyx.— The Antirrhinum does not appear to be bored— Marvel of Peru much bored.—

August 21st 1842 The same bed of Stachys has only a few terminal flowers, & not one of them bored; nor were some scattered plants.— The Salvia grahami is giving out & few or none of the young flowers are bored whereas last time all were.

The Large Humbles are sucking almost every flower of a short Marvel of Peru. These flowers are bored indifferently upon any side, just above calyx, but those wh. hang laterally on upper side Bees crossed over mouth of flowers, & those few flowers which were not bored X they did not attempt to bite, but passed over after examining. The Humbles do not appear to have bored the Antirrhinum
