[C8]

Maer June 23d. 1841— I continued for last fortnight, after seeing Bees at work on the small white & large Red, & carefully avoiding the small-flowered yellow kind, that this was difficulty— I watched many fields with this view— Today I found field, with their X sprinkling of both other kinds— with many domestic bees sucking at base of standard a very small touch with pin opens Keel of yellow kind, & passing over white clover— other domestic Bees were at work at this, & one I saw go from one kind to other— I entered a second poorer field & saw none at yellow clover— & yet I doubt whether they visit poor plants on road side— The domestic Bees having been nearly exterminated here must make them cautious—
