June 14th The fact of upper under surface being generally paler than upper (but there are some, I am sure, remarkable exceptions), & generally the effect of light, might be admirably illustrated by effect of light on the reconstructed arborescent incrustations at ascension.

I see Mr Jamieson I see attributes much like light effect on mind of animals: so allude to this: as so many lower animals lay before or at period ↘
