case of not perfect adaptation

Kalm XX 3/175 Thuya & many other American trees grow so plentifully in marshes & thick woods, that these are certainly their native places, yet scarce a single tree in these places will bear a seed, on the other hand a tree growing accidentally on the outside where the air can come to it is always full of seeds. Has repeatedly observed this with Thuya, 2 species of maple, 2 firs & mulberry & others.

This is very strange, how on my theory could trees be created with habits suited to a state, in which they do not generate .— They are like neuters with this wide difference, that neuters are useful to their parents. Effects of chance! — Nothng created better.
