Dictamnus fraxinella July 1/62/ Fan petals upwards & one beneath but often rather lateral - upper side of base of ovarium secretes large drops of nectar; lower side only very minute drops. Stamens have anthers first turned down, then the upper ones bend up at L' into gangways & shed pollen & then the lower ones bend up & shed. subsequently all become straight & then the short pistil which was until now straight & surrounded by filaments bends up, but less than the stamens. If the stamen did not, when nearly all the pollen shed, become straight, the short & little bent pistil could not be touched by insects, coming for nectar—Filament below anther - footstalk of flower & calyx covered with nearly like [sketch] glands, which have singular property of bursting when the terminal hair is lightly touched.

[in margin:] Dichogamy
