Begonia

March 19th /63 /

Pollen coherent, not easily blown off - no apparent nectar. In female flower ridge to ovarium (? sepals) are decidedly sweet & acid; petals early fall off & expose these ridges. In each flower bases of sepal thinner, but same taste. - Stigma larger & rougher Begonia not in Kurr.

In B. Sandersii, in B. villifolia & B. suaveolens I observe all male fl. produced before any females. (so dichogamy dioicous) in D. frigida, something of this kind, but on distinct branches male & female flowers do occur. - Begonia is in male & female at same time: do B. frigida.

Apr 6th I now see B. suaveolens with branch of opposite sexes at same time.
