May 3d. 1863 Hartfield - A spiny Phlox - tube of corolla very narrow - 5 anthers attached at different height all round tube by very short filaments; upper one at mouth; lower one 1/2 way down tube. Below lowest trifid stigma - Adapted for raking anthers –

allied to alternate lengths of stamens in many flowers - I do not say alternation cause for this object, but certainly subserves it in many cases.
Case of Sethia good showing alternation not indispensable -
