Spinacea oleracea (Chenopodeae) May 25 - 63

Dioicous - Male flowers rigid filament – anther dehisce & a slight jar shakes out astounding clouds of incoherent pollen – flower quite inconspicuous – Female fl. with long projecting stigmas – these flowers secreted in axils of leaves & considerably hidden; but leaves have long naked footstalks.

Sorrell (Rumex acetosella) dioicous.

Flowers rather conspicuous for redress but no corolla – male flowers with short filaments, yet dangling; a slight shake sends all pollen out in clouds & leaves open anthers clean. – Stigma projecting & plumose –
