The "Dr Darwin" referred to her is his father, Dr Robert Darwin. These notes presumably date to 1825 when Darwin assisted in his father's medical practice in Shropshire in preparation for heading to Edinburgh University to study medicine.

Palsy may be divided into three classes

1st

When preceded by convulsion

2nd

When coming on suddenly, without convulsion

3rd

And when it comes on by slow degrees.

The prognosis of the first is the most favorable & the recovery generally is the most complete.

The prognosis & recovery in the second is less favorable & complete.

But when Palsy comes on by degrees recovery has hardly ever been known.

These rules hold good chiefly in old women.

In people who are subject to Epilepsy, when the fit returns after a long interval, without confusion afterwards there may be expected in the next 49 hours 23 show fits.

In Apoplexy if the patient appears better, but respiration difficult, it generally terminates fatally. Dr D

In fever if the pulse becomes slower after the stimulant of [illeg] or wine it may be safely applied every 3 or 4 hours et vice versa. Zonomia, Dr Dar

In Mania Emetics seldom act, but if a dose of Laudanum be given 12 hours previous, it acts freely, & so in other cases. Dr D

My Father never gives Digitalis  in Mania except in that which follows childbirth. Dr D
