Empresma Pneumonitis

Obtuse pain in chest, occasionally changing its place, alleviated by an erect position: face turned bloated: cough generally moist often bloody, pulse soft

Treatment –

Bleeding & Expectorants

Empresma Pleuritis

Acute pain in chest incurred by [full] inspiration, difficulty of lying on one side: short dry distressing cough. Pulse hard.

Treatment –

Bleeding blisters & purgatives

Empresma Peritonitis

Pain & tenderness of the Abdomen especially on pressure or in an erect position, pain generally superficial

Treatment –

Bleeding, blisters hot fomentations & epithems.

Empresma Gastritis

Burning pain at the pit of the stomach, rejection of everything: hiccough oppression & dejection of mind

Treatment –

Copious bleeding in the onset, mild laxatives, syrup of white poppies in extreme sickness

Empresma Enteritis

Griping pain in the belly tenderness & vomiting

Treatment

Cathartics, mild if of sufficient power. Opiates, Fomentations & copious injections of warm water. Opium given after blood letting: an excellant practice (Dr Alison)

Empresma Hepatitis

Pain in the region of the [bill] also in the right shoulder, felt especially when lying on left side, short dry cough

Treatment –

Bleeding at the commencement of the acute variety, purging: mercury introduced into the system either by stomach or unction united with diaphoretic as antimony.

Rosalia

Rash appearing on second day & going off on the seventh chiefly on face & fancis Fever Typhus

Treatment –

Purgative & cold affusion as recommended by Dr Carne

Rubeola

Rash in crescent appearing on the fourth day & departs on the seventh preceded by Catarrh, cough & watery eyes Fever Cauma

Treatment

Bleeding & emetics at the onset, purgatives & disphoretics
