Read Sir James Hall paper Vol. VII p. 157 & 169 before writing appendix to Ice chapter. According to Hall, Mr Wrede seems first to have thought of slow transport – alludes to Halls Theory

[Hall, James. 1812. On the revolutions of the Earth's surface. Transactions of the Royal Society of Edinburgh 7: 139-211.]

Jamesons Cuvier Theory of Earth

p. 345 has heard of Rocks in plains of New Mexico (Sahara) or plains of Missouri

Refers to Silliman's Journal for many cases in the Lake Country

Humboldt says (p. 346) none on Lombardy or plains of Bavaria which is (250 fathom above sea)

[Cuvier, Baron G.; Professor Jameson. 1827. Essay on the theory of the earth. Fifth edition.]

Lyell's paper on Sweden p. 15 argument against entire Rock distributed by floods to be deduced from their presence on the sand – as in (with recent shells)

[Lyell, Charles. 1835. On the proofs of a gradual rising of the land in certain parts of Sweden. 38pp.]

NB. I must be cautious in not attributing too many Rocks to the period when climate equable. Consider profoundly the change, which would take place during transition from one climate to other. During present climate many have been transported.
