p. 246 D Benza memoir of geolog of Neelgherries & Koondahs stratum sometimes 40 ft thick – smooths the country – colour mottled definitely, veins of felspar sometimes decomposed, results from decomp of syenite & greenstone rock before becoming converted into [illeg] earth, passes into dry friable substance used for building stone – quartz viz little rock not protected if this substance (on those hills were no hornblende no lithomargic ) Same identical rocks on other parts of peninsular, not same results. "Besides, in this decomposition the effect of existing causes or the consequence of time & revolutions [gone by]?"

P 270 Basattin dykes not rare on plains of India through granite grass porphyry &c &c

p 281 again refers to difference of granites as cause of absence or presence of lithomargic.

p 286 Basalt decompose in different manner in different parts of India

p 293 very curious account of holes being made in the artificial dunes of annicut India – circular [holes] four to five feet deep – 3 in diameter [illeg] cut pieces of granite stones – formed by round stone from [illeg] to 100 f being turned round & round
