Form of land shows subsidence in T. del Fuego, and connection of quadrupeds. – although recent elevation there may have been great subsidence previously. Mem. pebbles of porphyry – Falklands. East coast.

Capt Cook found soundings (end of 2d voyages outside coast of T. de, Fuego. Off Christmas sound.

Sea weed sand at Kerguelan Isd to grow on shows used to be Fucus giganteus! 24 fathom deep. 24

Kerguelan 40 by 20 leagues – dimensions.

Bynoe informed me that in Obstruction Sound, in the narrow parts which mark thought the put South wires, the tides form eddies with its extreme force yet no outlet at hand. Important in forming valleys
