[D19]

The fact of extraordinary few peculiar plants, in intertropical Africa so wonderfully contrasted with S. Africa. (p 412 Decandolle.) transit by N. Africa family of quadrupeds. The similarity of Birds across the continent

[Many lines illeg]

[D19v]

N. Africa colonized from India or reverse, when cold went away. A Line of connection allowing plants to migrate, but mammals.  See map of Africa - Mem: the atolls South of Maldives are dying we may well believe in others. Africa may be compared to La Plata a new Estuary deposit, or to Siberia & Canada [illeg] or to England, which was chiefly submerged during glacial, or to Iceland covered with ice Sicily newly elevated & top straits (Lyell's argument)

All show how long to make new forms; very good for me.
