Bournemouth Sept 62. Hooker sent me part of new paper with letter from Julius Haast, showing that Glaciers descended lower formerly in New Zealand, & that there is a "drift" on which the old moraines rest. This he thinks marine Glacial deposit. Very good for transportation.— Speaks about a Rat in mountains.
