are to be seen, & this change is effected by an ascent of only a few yards! Viewing these mountains from a distance the beholder would suppose their summits were constituted of some quite different formation, from their bases, round which the icy stream must have swept for ages. So great is the contrast, that anyone viewing these mountains from a distance would in many cases naturally conclude that their bases & their summits were composed of different formations.
