Darwin, C. R. 1882. The action of carbonate of ammonia on the roots of certain plants. [Read 16 March.] Journal of the Linnean Society of London (Botany) 19: 239-261.

[F11]

Leaf of Cyclamen left in distilled water from 13' to 10˚ 30' on 15' & therefore longer in water than in the Ammonia — (F. says immersed for 47 1/2 hour.) Considerable difference in appearance from Ch. gr. being so much distinct, but they were generally collected at bottom of cells In one, palisade cell alone was grain particularly confluent.— In 2 or 3 parenchyma cells there was almost perfect confluence. No signs of aggregation in cells on either side of vascular bundles — It is clear that C. of A. only increase a tendency in plain-water, as with Drosera.— I examined many slices. —

Jan 15. 1882.—
