Nature 1881 p 196. –Moseley review of Bessel's Polaris Expedition says — The Esquimaux Dogs never turn round before lying down like all dogs except those of their breed. 

Two Newfoundland dogs in the Polaris pack gradually assumed the same habits, with the Esquimaux dogs, "but before lying down they always turned round & round in their resting place" Like

This agrees with my explanation for Esquimaux dogs for countless generation [illeg] has had no grass to trample down & form their beds — It appears as if Bessel had quoted me
