is almost sure to use frantic gestures, & clenches or grinds his teeth. A [illeg] of jaw— protrudes Under a transport of joy a man caps his hands or jumps mildly about. in [illeg] with joy Extreme fear Fear cause him the heart to palpitate, to be [illeg] the surfaces to turn to tremble become pale,  showing that the capillary vessels are affected a cold sweat to exude , the sphincter muscle t be relaxed & to excrete to be immediately voided, & finally fainting . But rage, the excitement of strong hope will likewise cause the body t tremble. In the agony of pain every muscle writhes with convulsive movements & the a profuse sweat pours down the face. Violent emotion likewise act on the secretion of the alimentary canal: the action of the liver & intestines are disturbed; & I have known a strong & healthy man, who always suffered much from vomiting under the sever grief for the loss of a child. under prolonged fear there is urinary secretion. Other actions & effects Blushing, weeping & the bristling of the hair are other expressions, w. likewise , be commonly attributed to a similar direct action of the nervous system, but I think they these effects & actions can in part be otherwise explained. Primordially no doubt but in many case habit & use or disuse have come into play
