(a) I may add that a child of half first-cousins (& an analogous relation must have existed amongst many plants) has seven distinct grandparnts out of the eight which he ought to have had the offspring of unrelated progenitors possesses.

of the dozen kind which we are here considering are less closely interbred than first cousins of a certain the class just alluded to. (a) — with Nevertheless in all cases by for the greater number of the undercrossed plants of the fourth, fifth & later generations in my experiments must all have been pretty closely interrelated.)
