See letter from W. G. Walker 21 August [1873]. Correspondence vol. 21, p. 339. Cited in Expression 2d ed., p. 176n "[Gordon Cumming 'The Lion Hunter of South Africa,' 1856, p. 227) in describing the behaviour of an African elephant severely hit with rifle bullets, says that "large tears now trickled from his eyes, which he slowly shut and opened." Mr. W. G. Walker called the author's attention to this fact.]".
