Beet, radicles from seeds exposed to sol. 4 to 1000 C. of ammonia for 20 hr. completely killed, shrivelled & blackened, whereas the red hypocotyl, had absorbed hardly any & was not discoloured. — Exposed for 20 hr to sol of 2 to 1000 all killed

Tripoli Onion, radicles exposed for 22 hr to sol. of 4 to 1000 C. of ammonia, (in at same glass with Beet) apparently not in the least affected.
