Dec 13 /80/ Leith Hill Lower Terrace, on which Lucy observed worms — certainly less favourable for worms judging by number of castings shown at upper Terraces & lawns & adjoining fields. Terrace found long ago, at least a century — On digging hole, the black vegetable mould, with turf, was exactly 4 inches in thickness, resting on a level surface, formed of small & large fragments of sandstone with a little earth, firmly rammed down.
