The volume CUL-DAR66 contains notes on 'bloom'. Francis Darwin explained: "His researches into the meaning of the 'bloom,' or waxy coating found on many leaves, was one of those inquiries which remained unfinished at the time of his death. Imantophyllum miniatum

Aug. 12th 11˚. green berries — very little bloom & when removed surface repellent.

4 not cleaned 5 cleaned. — Syringed.

Sept 21st 4/5 of the cleaned partially purple; not a trace on the 4 with bloom.

Sept. 24th of the cleaned the 5th now is purple on one side

― 25. One with bloom a little purple on one side

28th 2 others with bloom with some little purple; all 5 cleaned ones very red. — great contrast between the 2 lots

Oct 5' all those with bloom reddish but considerable difference in colour between 2 lots

Nov. 22 For a long time splendid red; I can see no difference in the 2 lots, & it none at all decayed, for those which had a slight bloom, long since all washed off. —

Iman [illeg] change of colour
