The volume CUL-DAR66 contains notes on 'bloom'. Francis Darwin explained: "His researches into the meaning of the 'bloom,' or waxy coating found on many leaves, was one of those inquiries which remained unfinished at the time of his death. Sea Kale

Aug. 30th 11˚. 30 sponged petioles & put on sponge & gutta percha.

(Sept 12th removed sponge, no effect.)

Oct 30th There are some minute specks, but the case quite doubtful.—

Red-Cabbage. Aug 31' 11˚ 30' did same with petioles

(Sept 12th. removed sponge, no effect.)

Oct 11' The leaf gathered by mistake by F. & I found on it 12 spots, (near of same size,) of brown decayed tissue.)
