Francis Darwin explained: "His researches into the meaning of the 'bloom,' or waxy coating found on many leaves, was one of those inquiries which remained unfinished at the time of his death. Ap. 20 / 1874 Oxalis acetosella —
On very warm day some clumps with young leaves finely expanded — sprinkled then with moderately cold water — in a few minutes at thin lobes only many of leaves were slightly closed — so that surfaces became slightly oblique
Remained for an hour at least.
