Francis Darwin explained: "His researches into the meaning of the 'bloom,' or waxy coating found on many leaves, was one of those inquiries which remained unfinished at the time of his death. Onion leaves 89° 1/2 to 88° 1/2 — waved for 1m leaf silvery & dry only in patches

94°-93° waved for 1m all silvery appearance disappeared & surface quite wetted — Before was completely silvery —

Sea Kale 92° to 90' waved for 1m quite wetted — quite silvery before

85°-84 — for 1m — a little patch of silver still on upper side. in one place — lower surface quite wetted
