Francis Darwin explained: "His researches into the meaning of the 'bloom,' or waxy coating found on many leaves, was one of those inquiries which remained unfinished at the time of his death. Aug 23d. Bladder Senna (Colutea) leaflets both surfaces silvery, but not very strongly — shook & syringed for 3' no movement.— leaflets at about right angle to each other. At night some of the leaflets, especially those toward base of leaf rose a little, but did not shut. I cd. perceive no movement of petioles.
