Francis Darwin explained: "His researches into the meaning of the 'bloom,' or waxy coating found on many leaves, was one of those inquiries which remained unfinished at the time of his death. Eucalyptus globulus— young oldish leaf young tree

Sept 13th 11° 45'. sponged both surfaces of one leaf, & its opposite pair done nothing to.

Sept 17' 8' I think cleaned drier

18th 8 This seems too or certainly the case

19th 8' Edges of cleaned much more curled in.

19 4° P.m— much Edge of leaned leaf much more folded in & feels much drier

— Others felt the 2 leaves cd be no doubt

20th I put both in candle & the dried one burnt much better.

wd— Acacia cultriformis be worth doing 2 twigs. —
