The volume CUL-DAR68 contains notes on 'bloom'. Francis Darwin explained: "His researches into the meaning of the 'bloom,' or waxy coating found on many leaves, was one of those inquiries which remained unfinished at the time of his death. He amassed a quantity of notes on the subject". LL3: 339. See an Introduction to these folders by Christine Chua & John van Wyhe.

White Clover Oct 21. /73/

Terminal L. turn upwards at ∟ to petiole, & their two lobes approach each other a little (??); but & make a roof with allsides; but as petiole is, I believe, generally a little incline showing the slope of the roof is considerably inclined by the 2 combined combined slopes ie of the side lobes & of the ridge-tile. — This petiole terminal leaflet will covers the 2 lateral which are closely approach each other. —

[sketches] — angles of the 2 lobes of terminal leaflet.

Those with leaves having terminal leaflet horizontal (ie at ∟ to upright petiole—) slope sloped very little & expose a great surface to radiation. Some have inclined much more inclined i.e. those with petioles but not upright, or those whose terminal leaflets have not raised at ∟' coming up over the 2 apressed together lateral leaflets.
