Francis Darwin explained: "His researches into the meaning of the 'bloom,' or waxy coating found on many leaves, was one of those inquiries which remained unfinished at the time of his death. 4 pods cleaned white thread + 4 uncleaned in salt-water —
Aug 19th These seem rather more discoloured than those in F. Water.
4 pods cleaned white thread + 4 uncleaned in fresh water
Aug 16' 2 of the uncleaned browner
Aug 19th There is no difference between those which have had & had not bloom removed either in F or S Water
Aug. 25 same conclusion no difference in any of the lots.
& Sea Kale Pods.
