Flower June 27 / 71 Origin
Whales bellow. Kangaroos silent Flower suggests projection of larynx might be very inconvenient for swallowing grass — with cetacea he thinks, judging from structures that it is not improbable that the [larynx] is drawn downwards in the act of swallowing. —
Whalebone only 9 or 10 inches long in Balænoptera rostrata — — Bottle-nosed whale (Hyperodon bidens) no functional teeth, but small horny projections have been seen on palate — see Owen Odontography.
See Eschricht Roy Soc. on fœtal whalebone.—
Fl. did not seem to object much to Duck as far as function is concerned — Whalebone does not replace teeth, though homologous with it —
Thinks Turners view correct.—
