June 1868 George went up Stony Valley for Bee orchises & found sixty flowers with both pollen-masses in anthers; twenty three flowers with both pollen masses on stigma; & 8 flowers with one pollen mass on stigma. I examined 9 plants & so John Wood found 15 flowers had both pollen masses in anther; 8 with both on stigma; & two with one on stigma. Hence it

is clear that something in the seasons checks the pollinia falling out of anthers.
