I examined the pods of Bird's nest O. from L. H. P. [Leith Hill Place] which was covered up, & which certainly had not been crossed, produced plenty of good seeds; but on comparing 10 pods from uncovered plants with 12 from covered, several were equally small; but several of uncovered were very much larger & contained much more seed. Taking pods of equal size the uncovered contained apparently about same quantity of seed - as covered. These latter uncovered may not have been cross fertilised.
The uncovered pods were taken from same height on spike as the covered up pods, viz both near summit.
