Bot. Gazette vol 2. p. 240. (Thurmann Essais de Phytostatique, Berne 1849. 8vo 2. vols)

Review, is said to contain long descriptions on influence of soil in modifying species, probably antiquity of species. (In Linn. Socy.)

Bot. Gazette vol. 2. p 251 Review of memoir by N. J. Anderson  on Casex ampullacea & C. vesicaria

describes a series of forms of both these species which formerly have been described as species, & these forms present a most remarkable parallelism, & "perfect analogy of every form of one species to those of the other." (Q)

p. 257 Scirpus lacustris, setaceus flourish both in Scandinavia & N. Holland & yet keep characters quite true

p. 258 Salix lanata in the sub-alpine region is a bush 6-12ft high is more juvenile here at 2-3 inches of stem buried & produces only 3 lean & one solitary catkin. So S. hastata, which also wholly changes colour of fruit has green to red or even dark brown. So with Solidago Virgaurea, which on peaks is only 1 ½ inch high with dark flower.— so with many other species.—
