White Candy-tuft— Iberis amara
Plants under net produced apparently as many pods as plants exposed growing near & visited by many Diptera —
200 heads exposed weighed 8.33
do under net do 8.28, but these perhaps were not quite so ripe & so would weigh heavier; yet difference very slight— Perhaps say seeds a trifle lighter. —
Seed crossed by insects
Sept 27th 7° 30' A. m. two germ. (Oct 11' a third) (Oct 12. 4th & 5'.) (Oct 14 a sixth)
Seed from under net
Sept 27th 7° 30 A.m. two germ. & at 2° P.m a third.
Sept 29' 7° A.m a 4th (thrown away) (Oct. 2d a fifth seed.) (Oct 5 a sixth) (Oct 7th a seventh seed.) (Oct 12. — an eight) (Oct 14th 9th & 10th)
(Dec 1'. The uncrossed plants were at first finer, & now are at least equal to crossed, but hard to judge for plants have grown so crooked)
(Feb. 10. Perhaps self-fertilised the tallest.)
(March 31 the self-fert. rather the tallest & finest plants.)
