Falconer & Cautley in Proc. Geolog Soc. 1843. & Falconers Pal. Memoir Vol. I. p. 196 first showed that Moschus aquaticus resemble the Anoplotherium pachyderms & departs from the type of the true Ruminants in a number of osteological characters, especially in the metacarpals being distinct along their whole length.
