Gould's Birds of Grt Britain

Phalaropus fulicarius - ♀ is both larger & during "summer more gaily attired then ♂"- according to Steenstrup the duty of incubation is performed by male alone & this shown by state of nest during the breeding season – Difference [seasonal] slight - Head of ♀ dark, tints brighter.

P. hyperboreum sexes differ in same way

The males certainly assist the ♀s in the incubation- but ♀s also attend to the young & are anxious about them

F is Heavier & larger than ♂ & more richly coloured but difference is slight
