Mr Bartlett after his immense experience with birds of all kinds allows me to state that his is fully convinced that the beauty of the male is admired by female & serves to attract her.

He instanced the gold pheasant which exhibits his splendid frill & turns from side to side before female bird.

In white Ibis in a bird known to be a female, bill at breeding season changes from yellow to black (as it does in some other species, & a large wattle becomes developed below base of beak.

Inspur-winged goose male is larger & naked skin about head much redder.
