Birds

When colour is injurious it wd be most injurious to the young & inexperienced & to the female on her nest; & as a general rule when the sexes differ greatly the young are protected by dull colours, as well as the female. But the dullest of young - Embryonic

On other hand, colour to be attached in condition to the male sex, must partly appear after sexual organs developed; & in this case is not appear

in young, & the young wd be less modified like the modified female.
